The Self-Reliance Foundation, a Washington-based national and international non-profit organization serving Hispanics, seeks a Director of Development. The mission of the Self-Reliance Foundation (SRF)/Hispanic Radio Network (HRN) Collaborative is to empower U.S. Hispanics towards self-reliance by providing information and access to educational opportunities, science, technology, health, environmental awareness, social services, and economic advancement. SRF & HRN also use their broadcast and Internet resources to foster social progress, economic development and environmental awareness in Latin America. This is accomplished via: Short, culturally-relevant radio programs broadcast daily by popular Spanish-language radio stations; Hour-long interactive talk programs broadcast from Argentina to Alaska; A nationally syndicated weekly Spanish-language newspaper column; Operation of a national bilingual toll-free Information & Referral service that links Hispanics nationwide to resources in the caller's own home community; Participation at major Hispanic grassroots community events; College fellowships and internships offering hands-on "service-learning" experience; Educational programming on HRN's four (4) new nationwide direct-broadcast radio channels on Sirius Satellite Radio; Internet resources & services All services of SRF and HRN are free to the public.

U.S. objectives are: To promote educational achievement for Hispanics; To promote mental and physical health; To increase economic opportunities for Hispanics; To increase Hispanic participation in science and technology; To involve Hispanics in protection of the environment; To increase the number of Hispanic college graduates. International objectives are: Link all Spanish speaking persons in the Western Hemisphere (including U.S. Hispanics) via live interactive talk shows focusing on science, technology, environment, and health. Share breakthroughs & solutions in science, technology, health, and the environment with the leaders of business and government in Latin America. Facilitate dialogue between Latin America and U.S. experts in science, health, environment, and business. The Director of Development will be responsible for developing the infrastructure for fundraising and project management, including identifying, recruiting and training a team of knowledgeable and aggressive fund-raisers. The Director will report to the Executive Director and in close collaboration with the management team.


Requirements
: BA/BS degree with 3-10 years related professional experience. Graduate degree a plus. Education and/or training in business, public/international affairs, finance, media/radio/TV. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to hold meetings with high level business executives. MS Office '97 and Internet skills a must. Applicants should possess a genuine interest in issues affecting the quality of life for Hispanics in the US and Latin America.
