The role of the Channels Development Engineer (CDE) is to perform the delivery of excellent and timely education and assistance to our Sales Partners. The scope of the assistance is centered on activities that promote the success of our partner's efforts to achieve significant, sustainable, and predictable initial and incremental company's product revenue. The efforts of the CDE are aimed at enhancing the value of the Channels Program. This is accomplished by increasing Channel revenue through faster Channel Partner development, sales cycle reduction, and effective company's product representation by our Channel Partners. To effectively leverage our partner relationships, each member of the company's channel support team will be a powerful evangelist for our products, our company, and the success of our Sales Partners. Environment: The CDE operates with a high degree of autonomy. They work closely with the Channels Sales Manager in a given region. They are also expected to independently service their Partner accounts. CDE's are responsible for the development of the VAR accounts held by the Channels Sales Manager (s) as well as SI organizations in their region. Their responsibility is to implement the Channels Technical Services Programs with these organizations. The CDE is required to maintain regular contact with their assigned Channels Partners. Duties: Implement Channels Technical Service Programs Generally, the Channels Technical Services Program contains the following elements. These activities are performed on a regular and periodic basis with each of the CDE's assigned Channels Partners as warranted by the development of new company's products, new partner staff/offices, etc.
1. Training and education: The CDE develops and conducts training programs designed to augment the formal technical training classes conducted by the company.
2. Product Briefings: Develops and presents Product Briefings for the VAR and SI accounts for which they are responsible.
3. Technical Briefings: Develops and presents Technical Briefings for the VAR and SI accounts for which they are responsible.
4. Collateral Material: Insures the dissemination of collateral marketing and technical material to the VAR and SI accounts for which they are responsible.

Pre-Sales Support Assist and train the partner organization in pre-sales activities by:
1. Preparation of technical presentations of products in line with prospective customer requirements
2. Support of partner Sales Account Manager/Channels Sales Managers with customer meetings
3. Perform product presentation and demonstration at customer meetings
4. Assist partners in the preparation and production of written responses for customer response RFI (Request For Information) and RFP (Request For Proposal)
5. Act as technical liaison for Channel Partner. This includes:
6. Act as interface between Channel Partner and company's development teams
7. Initiate, monitor and escalate problem resolution on behalf of Channel Partner
8. Initiate, monitor and escalate Development Requests on behalf of Channel Partners
9. Act as technical authority for proposed customer solutions

Technical Channel Management The CDE will have the following responsibilities as part of the ongoing management of their Channel Partners:
1. Ensuring competence of channel technical resources with respect to installation, configuration and customization of the product suite
2. Mentoring of channel technical resources
3. Providing feedback to Technical Services and Development of requirements and/or customization of the product suite undertaken by channel partners
4. Regular assessment of the quality of work being undertaken by channel partners
5. Identify key account contact and set up regular dialogue, to provide feedback on any problems or requirements to Channel Sales Manager Other Responsibilities The CDE will have the following additional responsibilities.
1. Completion of the Certified Consultant exam is a requirement.
2. Attends/present as subject matter expert at Channels technical seminars.
3. Attend and participate in the biannual Technical Services team meetings.
4. Participate in the team technical mailing list.
5. Maintain technical information on company's Internal/Partner Web sites.
6. 60-80% domestic travel will be required. (Once per year on average).
7. Some international travel will be required.

: Skills Profile A CDE should have the following skill profile.

Required
1. Candidates should have enjoy working with and helping people
2. Candidates should possess the ability to present to and communicate with existing or potential customers at all levels in a professional manner.
3. Candidates should have the ability to work to strict deadlines, under pressure.
4. Candidates should have the following technical abilities: a) UNIX Skills b) Data Network and/or /Telecom knowledge c) Shell Scripting d) RDBMS Desirable
1. Candidates should ideally be from an enterprise, service, systems or network management background with good technical abilities on UNIX and/or NT.
2. Candidates should possess knowledge of Complementary/Competitive Products
3. Candidates should have prior experience in a Channels/Reseller environment.
4. Candidates should have knowledge of network infrastructure components (routers, switches, hubs; their roles in a network)
